School of Education

Welcome to the School of Education website at Charleston Southern University.

At CSU, we are committed to providing a quality education as we meet the challenge of preparing our future teachers. Through experiences which allow students to explore ideas, confront education issues, consider alternatives, make decisions and apply knowledge in practical situations, they will discover their own learning resources. As a result of this discovery, we expect that prospective teachers will view learning as exciting, renewing and ongoing; and they will act in ways, which create opportunities for their own professional growth as well as that of their future students. Students choosing to teach will find that much attention, nationally and locally, is being focused on education; their contribution can serve to perpetuate this dynamic and exciting thrust toward education excellence.

Our primary purpose is to prepare highly-skilled initial teachers for early childhood, elementary, and secondary school instruction and administrators for instructional support. The Preparing Competent, Caring Educators Committed to Student Success model serves to define the Professional Program in Teacher Education.

The School of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs and advanced educator preparation programs.
