How do I make an appointment?

Walk-In Clinic:
CSU Counseling Services is now offering Walk-In clinic hours for students needing immediate assistance with personal concerns or crisis situations! Walk-in during the hours listed below for a consultation appointment with a CSU Counseling Services counselor. We have walk-in hours from 1:00 - 3:00pm, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. You do not need to call before you come; just stop by Russell Hall West, 2nd floor, across from ROTC offices. The goal of the walk-in appointment is for you to meet with a member of our staff for approximately 30 minutes to discuss your concerns and decide on a course of action that best meets your needs. During this appointment, you and the counselor may decide upon one of the following options:

  • Individual counseling at CSU Counseling Services
  • A referral to a CSU Counseling Services therapy group
  • A referral for a CSU Counseling Services eating disorder assessment, substance assessment, learning disorder screening, or anger intervention
  • A referral to another CSU agency or resource
  • A referral to an off-campus agency or resource

Contact Us:
If you cannot come during these hours please call the CSU Counseling Line at (843) 863-8010 and leave a message with your name and number, and a counselor will return your call within 24 hours to set up an appointment. email us

Are there any groups?

Yes! CSU Counseling Services is starting a new group focused on issues related to body image and self-esteem. Participants will learn to recognize the influence of the media and culture on body image and the related effect on our self-esteem. People of all shapes and sizes welcomed and respected.  More information is coming soon. Please contact Jill Ilagan (x8010) or e-mail at jilagan@csuniv.edu for more information.

What services are provided?

We offer professional mental health services in the form of personal counseling for a wide range of issues such as:

Anxiety and Stress
Depression and Loneliness
Academic Problems
Relationship Issues
Anger Management
Conflict Resolution
Career Decisions
Substance Abuse
Eating Disorders

How much does it cost?

Counseling services are offered to all CSU students free of charge. Counseling service consultations are available to CSU faculty and staff, including assistance to off-campus referrals.

What about counselor qualifications?

Our counselors are all Master's or Doctoral level graduates of regionally accredited professional counselor education programs, have completed extensive counseling internships, and hold professional licensure as counselors in the State of South Carolina.

Outside Referrals

Because of limited resources, clients with problems requiring long-term counseling may need to be referred to an off-campus professional. Also, if a CSU counselor determines that a client's needs exceeds his or her ability to provide adequate services, we have an ethical responsibility to refer the student to another counselor. While CSU does not endorse or recommend any one particular counselor, we do maintain a list of local counselors that are qualified to meet your needs. However, the cost of off-campus counseling is strictly the responsibility of the student.
