The Purpose of Campus Ministries is to:


Reaching students with the gospel

M-Fuge continues to be a huge blessing to our campus and surrounding areas.
M-Fuge 2007 yielded the following results: 4,176 participants, 57 commitments to Christ, 352 recommitments to Christ, 15 vocational calls to ministry, and 204 other prayer requests. $68,467.36 was also collected to support missions in the SBC.
• At our first Elevate of the year, we had over 300 students in attendance. We have averaged approximately 175 in attendance every week.
• FCA camps that were held on our campus were a tremendous success again this summer. We recorded 333 salvations and many other decisions.
• At our first campus worship on August 19, we had over 1000 in attendance and the following decisions were recorded: 2 accepted Christ, 10 recommitted their lives to Christ, 19 prayer requests, and 3 asked to be contacted by Campus Ministries.
• On January 19, we sponsored the Resolution ’08. This is an outreach ministry for the minority community. This year approximately 300 people attended and we recorded 23 public commitments: 2 salvations, 5 assurance of salvations, 15 rededications, and 1 prayer request.
• We offered basic evangelism training for all of our summer mission teams.
• At least 6 children have come to know Christ from our “Hungry?” BCM community missions ministry.
• We know of 74 CSU students who gave their lives to Christ this past year.
Denominational Relations, under the leadership of Skip Owens, had 100+ first time decisions at “Leadership Rocks” and 30 decisions for Christ at “Living Out Tour.”
• Partnering with the Convoy of Hope, we saw over 500 people come to know Christ on October 20.

THROUGH THE MINISTRIES OF CSU, WE HAVE SEEN AT LEAST 1104 COME TO KNOW CHRIST THIS PAST SCHOOL YEAR.


Raising students in the scripture

• This past summer continued our partnership with Student Leadership University (SLU) by sending four interns to work with Dr. Jay Strack, founder and president of SLU, who is also a CSU alumnus. We are sending three more interns this summer.
• We know of 29 small group Bible studies meeting on campus with more than 300 students involved in these weekly gatherings.
See You At The Pole was observed on Wednesday, September 26 at 7 a.m. We had 80 people in attendance. Staff, faculty, and students all contributed on this morning of prayer. We also set up a prayer tent in front of the chapel for the entire day. We prayed for 104 prayer requests on that day!
• The One Accord Gospel Choir meets every Wednesday and had as many as 80 in attendance. We had 26 ministry projects and several other local projects.
• Seventeen students attended the National Apologetics Conference in Charlotte, NC this past fall. Guest speakers included Chuck Colson, Josh McDowell, Lee Strobel, and many other Christian leaders.
• CSU helped sponsor students to attend the Campus Outreach’s ATL ’07 Conference, Campus Crusade for Christ’s Encounter ’07 Conference, and Baptist Collegiate Ministries’ Converge ’07 Conference.
• Campus Ministries published a The Christmas Book for the family and friends of CSU. Over 450 books were distributed! Staff, faculty, and students wrote the articles.
• We are working with HIS Way Ministries and other local Christian businesses to bring Joe Ehrmann to the Charleston area to ministers to coaches and parents. More information about this ministry can be found at http://www.buildingmenandwomen.org/2007/default.asp.
• We teamed up again with all the college ministries in the Lowcountry and offered a Passion week worship service downtown Charleston, in Marion Square, called Downtown Community. Approximately 300 people heard the gospel, were prayed for, and fed! It was a huge success.
• At our Gospel Choir Extravaganza on April 20, more than 800 people attended the event. Dozens of local musical groups participated as well as several other college gospel groups.

INCLUDING ALL 5 MINISTRY GROUPS ON OUR CAMPUS AND OUR GOSPEL CHOIR, WE HAVE 360 STUDENTS MEETING WEEKLY FOR WORSHIP AND BIBLE STUDY. WE HAVE REACHED APPROXIMATELY 795 STUDENTS THOUGH THESE MINISTRIES THIS YEAR.


Releasing students to change the world

• We have over 100 faculty, staff and students go to 12 different countries for ministry and missions this past school year and this summer. We went or are going to: Austria, Peru, Nepal, Ethiopia, Romania, Sudan, Mexico, Northern Africa, Middle East, China, India, and Poland.
• We sent 6 students to serve as support staff for The Big Youth Thing sponsored by the S.C. Baptist Convention. Some of our students were interviewed and broadcast on Louie Giglio’s worldwide podcast!
• On move in day, we had 10 churches and one para-church ministry help the new students move in. All the students were fed hamburgers, hotdogs, drinks, ice cream, doughnuts, and candy for free – all donated by the churches and ministries.
• We sent a video made by some of our staff and friends that contained the gospel message. It was sent to India to be broadcast throughout their country.
• We sponsored a tailgate party for the CSU/Citadel football game and gave away 100 rain ponchos. Dozens of people heard the gospel and we even had the chance to ministry to some Citadel Cadets!
• For our Fall Break Mission Trip on October 13-16, seventeen of us went to Erwin, TN to work at Fishery Community Church. This was our third trip to this area and 11 missions projects were done in only two and a half days! These projects included leading children’s worship, delivering hot meals to shut-ins, and clearing a lot for a 91-year-old lady.
• Our BCM has a ministry called “Hungry” that ministers to needy communities. We held a block party on September 23 and 200 residents from the Caromi neighborhood attended. We have teams go back into this neighborhood every Tuesday and we have seen at least 6 people come to know Christ out of this ministry. This ministry continues to serve weekly in the Caromi community.
• Our “Hungry” ministry partnered with Celebration Station in N. Charleston on April 19 and offered a block party to the Chicora neighborhood for over 200 people. We offered many games, prizes, puppet shows, and we gave away 500 hotdogs and drinks.
• The Convoy of Hope was on October 20 and CSU sent more than 40 students to help with this life-changing ministry. We distribute over 100,000 lbs of groceries, medical and dental help, 8500 hot dogs, free haircuts and hairstyling, a job fair, community services, 5,000 donuts, 15,000 cans of soda, clothing, entertainment, a kids carnival, concessions with pop corn, nachos, cotton candy and snow cones, boiled peanuts, coffee, 12,000 Bibles, other literature, evangelism and the gospel from over 1,500 volunteers to over 7,000 people from the inner- city of Charleston. The final count shows that more than 500 people came to know Christ!
• Our Ministry Teams have been very effective this semester. We had 10 incredibly successful ministry opportunities this past year. Twenty students are involved in this ministry.
• We partnered with Northwood Assembly in collecting and delivering 2,035 boxes of food, 2000 frozen turkeys, 2000 “Just Stop and Think” Evangelistic DVD’s. 8000 people were ministered to!
• Nine students and one alum went to the following countries over the Christmas break to share Christ: China, Peru, Romania, and Nepal.
Prison Fellowship and the CSU family took care of providing Christmas gifts for 50 children from the Charleston and Colleton Counties.
• We hosted with Summit Church a Super Bowl Party and the Souper Bowl of Caring on February 3, 2008. We had 425 students attend the event and collected $81.04 for the NAMB Hunger Relief Fund and 134 lbs./117 food items for the Lowcountry Food Bank.
• Our students donated $93.39 to help Union University at our Elevate worship service on February 13.
• We partnered with Catalyst, First Baptist Church of Ravenel, and the Charleston Baptist Association to provide a basketball goal for the Jericho Trailer Park Community.
• We took 30 students and 2 leaders to Baltimore, MD this year on our Spring Break Mission Trip on March 2-7. We partnered with Embrace Baltimore, the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, and the Church on Warren Avenue. We participated in a variety of outreach initiatives, from outdoor concerts to ministry in a recreation center. We also helped the church reorganize for ministry, hosted a Parent Night Out in which 22 children attended, and ministered to the homeless in the area. Our trip was chronicled in the Baptist Courier, The Summerville News, the NAMB and SCBC websites, and other locations.
• Campus Ministries and the students of CSU raised support ($459.21) to care for 2 boys from Brazil for an entire year through Compassion International.

LITERALLY, CHARLESTON SOUTHERN IS REACHING OUR WORLD FOR CHRIST. WE SENT OVER 200 FACULTY, STAFF, AND STUDENTS TO AT LEAST 6 STATES AND 11 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES.
